Role call!

Recommended Posts

Hello guys, you may not see me here on the forums bunch, but I'm sure if you ever popped into TS once, you would have met me.

Anyways, I'm interested to see how many people are actually interested in role play. I'm asking because I'm planning a series of ad-libed, impromptu stories. I believe the PU, if built the way we hope, will be full of stories to tell and record. What would make it even better is if everyone participating acted a role. Would be awesome to create some of those wing commander moments by shear chance.

This of course will be for fun and nothing that requires everyone to be around at certain times. Although would be great to have consistency.

So what do you guys think?

I'm not much for organized role play, but I tend to stay in character when a situation calls for it. I agree that it would be fun to see the player base come together and act out certain roles. Like a police pilot hailing a freighter pilot while performing a quick cargo scan and asking about their destination, etc. Adds to the immersion.

Right, I don't plan to be strict with it. The more organized the better of course. But as long as there is a central character, it doesn't matter, the fleet is big and many people come and go. Would be nice to have a few people who are interested in bigger roles though.

My gut feel is this may occur naturally due to the roles players will have in game and the natural opportunities Star Citizen will provide, so you may not have to script anything at all (which is good).

For example, a small group of friends on TS go out exploring and one person records. People will naturally "get-in" to their role and, say, if you were able to create a temp channel in TS and stick an RP flag or something on it people would know not to randomly join and tell you about their trip to the doctor to discuss that itch they've been having ;)

Anyway, maybe at the end of it just transcribe the TS chat, embellish it a little (if needed) in places and you have a reasonably natural story. You could dip into the player characters background in places to give things a bit more depth as required.

With luck the stuff would write itself and just need a bit of polish and added background to make it into a decent read for a forum.

Merely my thoughts, if course :)

@Whittle, That's exactly what I hope for. the only scripting parts would be very small, for example if there are supporting characters of sorts, but what they say and do is completely up to their character and how they rp.

I would be very interested in role-playing via team-speak or text in the game or on the forum.

The heart of the game experience in such a large, sandbox type game is the personality of the character you choose to create and portray with the actions you take.

I have a Freelancer and would love to go exploring with a bunch of RP ers.

This sounds like something I would naturally fall into over time. I always enjoyed the idea of immersing myself with my character, creating background stories and such. I did the same thing with my Guild Wars 2 characters. Sounds like it could be fun.

I'd Definitely Join this!

Though from what you were saying; Maybe if there was a Post dedicated to showing your 'RP Profile' then It may help everyone get to know a little about each character, and makes it easier to have smooth Rp - Only a suggestion, but I think it could work if we get someone to make it sticky and strict Commenting rules.

This entitles those interested to express their characters ect, to have a little bit of structure, but nothing strict (if that's what people want).

Strict or Not; I'm totally up for this!

Hey guys, sorry for being out for a bit.

I would appreciate a strict role play, but I am by no means asking people to always role play.

I'm just very interested in actually crafting a story with my character. Obviously I won't be role playing all the time either. But when I do, I'd like to break character as little as possible. Mostly because I'll be recording parts if not most of the interactions for a "journal" that I'll put up on youtube.

Perhaps we can start a section on the forums to have RP profiles. hmm... I'll talk to stoff if I can.

I'm not part of Imperium (TBD! :D) but I am an avid roleplayer, love pen and paper games and RPGs. With that said. I think to clarify as some people might be confused by the word "strict". Stealthguy seems to want to set up a story where he (more or less) acts as a storyteller of sorts. Everyone who's interested in his particular storyline or doesn't mind using their character for it could basically sign up, so he knows how many characters he's storytelling with and what possibilities are there as far as "randomly" occurring events. At least that was my interpretation of what he said.

On the other hand it sounds like you have a few people more than willing to participate in a storyteller driven roleplay, and some others who are going to be in character pretty much all the time who are a bit more into freeform.

My take on this: RP. ALL THE RP. BWAHAHA. I do agree though, a character biography section would be great to get people's creative juices flowing so that they can flesh out their characters more and so that people can get an idea of who's interested in joining up for some RP later on or on the forums for some text-based.

Tip: I find (having joined several roleplay oriented websites in the past) that you shouldn't add anything to your biography you wouldn't want people to know without hearing it through word-of-mouth. For instance, if I'm a smuggler, I could add that people who are "underground oriented" /may/ know or have heard something about me that suggests I might be in the business of smuggling. Anyone who wasn't part of the slummy underground would probably not know this. Basically, it can be a blessing and a curse to add too much or too little, so just keep that in mind when fleshing out your characters on forums. :)
