DarkRed
Hello everyone! I was wondering how large this game might be. I know it may be too early to pose such a question, but it is quite a significant one. Knowing that this game is going to be big, very big, its file size will be enormous as well. In addition, for best performance, this game should run on an SSD rather than HDD. Now take into account that one of the largest PC games of all time (if not the largest) is X-Plane, a flight simulator taking up a whopping 70 Gb of space. Star Citizen's hangar module alone is over 4 Gb in size. If we want this game to fit in an SSD, we might need to get a drive dedicated solely for Star Citizen. What are your thoughts on the game's file size? Or is it far too early to even speculate?
Stoff
I am too lazy to look right now, at work, but there is already a topic for this matter if you want to find some "guesses".
Tallhart
I can't see it being over 50gb. I'd imagine it'd be less but who knows; those graphics must take up a bit of room. In other words... we'll just have to wait and see.
Gargoyle
Guestimation of around 30 - 40gb at launch, after a year or so it could be getting close to 100gb. In 10 years time, who knows 1tb maybe
zerkerz
CR said the game will be made for 2 million people. As thats about how many copies he sold of wingcommander in the old days Just some addiational info
Voy
I can't imagine it being above 50GB either, there will be plenty of optimisation and so on so I wouldn't try calculating the game size from the hangar module
AppleHead
Well eve online is around 20 gigs so I'm guessing on release it will be around that.
GruffDaddy
This game will have more things to do then EVE so the size will be larger. Don't know by how much though.
BladeHawk
Well, considering the Hangars and Ships alone are totaling to a size of 19.8 Gigabytes, I expect this game in it's entirety to be at least double that. So I'd make an approximation of about 40-50 Gigabytes in total file size, at least at launch.
zachaol
Considering the fidelity of the graphics and the small scale of the Ships already in the game, I'd say around 75 GB to start things off.

I agree next gen games are taking up ~50Gbs Assassin's creed unity (50Gbs) and Call of Duty Advanced Warfare (55Gbs). I think it will be between 50-60Gbs at launch and additional content after that may take up to another 20Gbs.

I dunno, from the looks of it they will have 4k textures which the games listed above don't have because the consoles they are made for max out at 1080p and usually struggle to do 1080p and 60 fps. Boildown
That flight sim although I don't know anything about it, probably is large because of terrain textures. I doubt SC will have anywhere near the amount of planetside terrain to take up tons of texture space. And space, being black, doesn't need a lot of texturing. And you can't even fly your ship close to the ground on planets anyways, there will be hotspots to land on and explore with roves, but I think that's it. So anyways, I think its probable that SC won't expand to that size unless and until they allow pilots to fly all around the various planets. Payens
Well you can buy a spaceship shaped usb stick capable of storing 16GB! The describtion gives a little hint "A 16 GB USB stick made in the shape of one of Star Citizen’s classic spacecraft designs. Store your copy of the game on it… or anything else! Note: This is a pre-order and won’t be shipped until closer to game launch."
Kozak
I'm calling BS on that ,no way that game is going to fit in 16Gbs. If it really is going to use 4k resolution textures, its going to be around 70Gbs, those textures take up lots of space.
zachaol
Yea, the scope of the game has grown too much. I'm guessing a 64 GB flash drive will be plenty and they will do a lot of companies do and package 1080p textures and have an optional download for 4k textures for those who can actually support it.
