Zepheris
I'd love compulsory voting, 15% didn't even vote, it would of been interesting if that affected the results of Scotland leaving us.
Zepheris
Regardless of the result, I found this London centric video guide to the referendum quite funny. > > > Scottish referendum explained for non-Brits - video < < <
rotorax
Even I´m not English or Scottish I was against the split from the beginning. We (Slovaks) have been through similar situation back in early 90´s when Czechoslovakia split up. Many were against it (politicians have decided, not citizens) and the result of that was a very long period of economical and cultural struggle, for nearly 2 decades. I think the same, or at least similar fate would await for Scotland, even though the situation is a bit different for them now than it was for us back then. IMO, we should try to find the ways to connect the world, not shatter it to even smaller pieces. Globalization is the future, it brings a lot of problems (EU is still a mess), but the society needs to evolve, and solve these problems together. Also, I think this should be in off topic, as it has nothing to do with general SC discussion, moving.
Minted
As someone from Scotland I can tell you that the last 2 years have been quite unpleasant. The referendum has split the country and will continue to be a problem for many years to come. Probably doesn't help it was orchestrated by a Nationalist movement. Anyone who isn't familiar with nationalism should go check out the Nazi party in 1930's-40's Germany.... One side claimed to be for democratic change yet they systematically bullied, intimidated and coerced businesses, government depts, campaign groups and individuals. There was no victor in this campaign and no congratulations should be given. I never want my country to go through this again. LastSmile
