  1. Going to play the devils advocate here and say info running could very much just be deliver this from A to B. Get the reward. Repeat. Not sure how valuable this Intel is. I hope CIG isn't keeping my credit card into in the PU hehe.
  2. @VoA Just own opinion, I hope there is a wipe before full release. I know it sucks to kill what people may have started but not having a full wipe will likely mean new comers may not want to join thinking they don't have a head start. I know more MMOs wipe before full release.
  3. @VoA Credits to Nocturnal_Nick off reddit who was kind enough to do the summary. http://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/2ki8uf/10_for_the_chairman_episode_43_october_27th_2014/ Writing these summaries are not a fun thing to do and takes a lot of effort and time. Would be good if we acknowledged the original writer of the summary for their efforts going forward even if they don't post here and are not Imperium members. Just a thought, I obviously don't have any power to compel people to do this.
  4. I didn't think it was that bad...I mean it is always one or the other really isn't it? If it isn't an overhyped article written by a fan boy it probably is labeled an over pessimistic article that was written by those "who whinge and moan etc". Typically like in most arguments, the real answer is somewhere in the middle and both sides views were on the extreme ends.
  5. Hello all, part 2. After this I am sort of out of ideas for a while on what to tackle...so keep ideas coming via PM. Part 1 is here is about the returns on rental ships: Received a pretty good response, so thank you all. Part 2. I will show you the method I use to calculate how much I will spend in Star Citizen and provides a fantastic and logical way to control my expenditure. I will firstly go through a live example and use my assumptions. This will be followed by the formula, where you can input your assumptions and you can decide how much you want to spend. Again, disclaimer, trying to keep this simple so I will leave out more advanced concepts. i.e. I have ignored inflation both real world and in game. Example: 1. How long will I play SC for? 10 years. Reason: I am thinking WoW, EvE. Also given the amount of "upfront" money I have invested so far, I intend to play this for the long term. 2. How much are you willing to pay for a very good MMORPG? Or what is a "fair" amount? $30 per month. Reason: Nothing really here. WoW, Eve are lower than this. Could be $15, $20. I just went for $1 a day. Also keeping in mind no DLCs,expansion or monthly fees, I think this is fair. 3. What is your savings rate? 5% Reason: This is what I can get locally, pretty much risk free. 4. I assume no end value to my ships. I don't play it to make money, I don't really care if I get no return from my ships in the end. Using my assumptions, the DCF calculation is: $30/(1+0.05/12)^1 + $30/(1+0.05/12)^2 + ...... + $30/(1+0.05/12)^120 = $2,828.44 You can just stop here, but for my own personal reasons I decided to add another step: I also like to add what a special retail edition a normal game would be, let's assume $100-ish, then I simply "round up" = $3,000. (Since we get the game, alpha, beta, trinkets with one of the ship packages). So that is how I would reach my budget and this is how I tend to think when spending. You can do your own, the formula is simply the Discounted Cash Flow formula (yes I know some people call it by other names). <$per-month-you-want-to-spend> / (1+<the-interest%-you-can-save-at>/12) ^ n Where N is how many years you want to play star citizen x 12 (to get it to monthly). We want to compound this monthly as most MMO's charge monthly fees Anyway, it is a bit late here and I am tired, I might upload a spreadsheet calculator however there is plenty around online if you just Google DCF. Or my formula is pretty easy to do, just bash it into Google Spreadsheets (hey I can't spoon feed everything!). Enjoy and good night.
  6. technology might, but information/data can only be sent at max speeds (of light) so I don't see the GPU power being the issure but more just simple "distance" related. If you have 200 players to deal with that is an awful amount of information you need to be sent out to everyone....anyway, I am not IT by trade but that is my logical guess. Pretty sure I am wrong here... But I know from Eve days when you had a lot of people in one area it wasn't a GPU issue at all.
  7. Yea, I agree it is full of surprises so I hope people are saving for a rainy day first I hope it didn't come off as trollish as I didn't mean it that way. I mean, as you say, people should do what they wish and people should be able to post how they feel as well. If people felt it was trollish, I apologise, but it was never meant that way. Steering this back to on topic, Idris likely to be on sale around the anniversary date. I am looking to pick one up for sure, after that I think that is all ships from the original waves for me apart from the starters. I think it'll be interesting to see what method they will allow us to see the Idris in the hanger module whether in hanger or out in orbit.
  8. I feel people who need to melt ships due to real life situations probably shouldn't of bought those ships in the first place (not directed at you, just the comment).
  9. From the latest 10ftc: RoJ Asks: Other large MMO games - especially "single server" sorts of universes - have historically seen large groups of players banding together in the name of "disruptive" behaviour. This can take the form of denying an area of the game to other players, controlling the economy, or just generally causing havoc. What are your plans for the Star Citizen universe to accommodate the lone freelance miner caught up in the madness? There are a couple of things that make us a little different than the games I think you're referring to perhaps like Eve online. First of all the player base is only ever going to make up at most 10% of the population of any given place, and what's happening in the economy etc, so in terms of being able to dramatically affect an area or economy, it's going to be pretty hard. You may be able to have an impact, but even the largest player group in a given area will make up less than 10%. The other issue is, because we have such high fidelity, we can't have too many people in one particular instance, like in AC the limit at the moment it's only 8 people, with 1.0 we'll have some new tech that we've made that allows much greater player numbers in one instance, but even with a best case scenario at the moment of 50-100 players, there are only so many people that can be crammed into one instance. Matchmaking will help limit these things, like say an organisation might only be able to occupy a certain portion of an instance, there will be slots reserved for friends of other players in that instance as well. It won't be a case where a thousand people can get together and control an area anyway, even if they fill that instance, there could be another instance of the same space that matchmaking might put you into because you're unrelated to whatever activity is going on there. If you want to be more PvE than PvP, the contextual matchmaking will put you together with other NPCs that might attack you rather than players filling the pirate role. There are places where you'll be beyond the PvE/PvP selections, where there's "no law", but if you're after quiet trading without players hassling you you'll have the choice to steer clear of those areas. We still want organisations to have AN effect on the economy though, there will definitely be things they can take over and control, but not allow them to spoil other's fun. I'm a bit of a dreamer here, but I have a good feeling about the balance that we've worked out, and we can and will continue to work on that as time goes on. I could be crazy, but I'm sure I'll hear about it from you guys on the forums :-D Sounds like each instance is likely less than what I expect and wonder how that changes things. If best case scenario for CR (who is a bit of a dreamer) is 50 - 100. does that mean we should expect < 50 players in any instance? Also, not sure if it was mentioned before, does this figure include or exclude AI? For me that really changes things...Given that each Idris likely would have 2 hornets as well with it (let me know if that is incorrect), so that is idris + 2 hornets = in terms of crew each hornet would have 2, idris can hold 10. That a total of 12 players. 50/12 = 4.16 idris' only in each instance? I was kind of imaging 50 Idris' battles etc. I didn't expect the battles to be this size. 50 player max size isn't totally out of the question either. I know BF4 has 64 players but that game has a lot less going on versus SC in the PU in each instance. SC would need to be processing what each ship is doing and what each player within that ship is doing etc where as BF4 would be processing a lot less. I cannot imagine the max player account to go much above that... Also changes my perception on how war between organisations will play at as well. Keen to hear your thoughts and let me know if I have missed anything...
  10. I would also post a warning about this of the seller's name (ONLY IF RULES ALLOW IT) to warn others. I know for a fact on reddit we do this to warn others and the mods actually ban the user. Sorry to hear about this.
  11. The result and my analysis is up: enjoy.
  12. Oops. Did a search and didn't see the earlier thread.
  13. Anyone seen this? I came across it yesterday. Looks amazing! https://www.greybox.com/dreadnought/en/ http://www.kotaku.com.au/2014/08/the-spaceship-game-with-firefly-sized-ambitions/ There is also 3 videos on youtube so have a look.
  14. One step ahead of you , If you work backwards you would of noticed that's exactly what I did but I did not want to give the percentages away I only put cash because it is easier for people to calculate. Not sure if everyone here knows the UEC conversion.
