I believe it is an exploit. The original intention of allowing this was so players could gift a pledge package to a friend and that friend would be allowed to get the same rewards as if they backed during the original pledge drive. Myself and 4 others tried to get clarification on this by posting the question in twitch chat, but it was not chosen as a question asked to Chris. I made a post about it on the SR forums to better explain to Bearcat what the issue I felt was, but he didn't get a chance to ask Chris while he was there. Paladin was able to find the following relevent posts answered by Rob Irving This basically puts it in a big TBD bucket right now. So regardless of how this plays out, breaking out your accounts guarantees you get everything regardless of RSI's official position. The down side is that there is a fee if you want to "selltrade" your ships back to a single account after the fact. If this fee is equal or greater then the value of the bonus stuff, there isn't a real problem I guess. The reason I am asking a question is because there are several people that have previously mentioned they plan on doing this and I do not think it is rightfair to game the system. No one has brought this point up yet to RSI, so until it gets their attention, this could slip through the cracks.

So from todays Wingmans Hangar, the 300i brochure will be released before the 24hr live stream and at least one brochure will be released during the live stream. if we are not at 10million, the 300i brochure will probably be the push needed. Probably a sale with it that lasts until the live stream ends?

Essentially, I agree with nearly all of your points, but that is because I am mostly talking about their new target audience and not existing gamers. The only thing that I think will get at existing gamers in the end is the obstacle of loaning games to friends and the used game enigma. While we both do not buy used games, a significant portion of gamers do. Everything else for existing gamers will blow over as game info comes out and the launch goes forward. As you said, the cycle repeats every new generation. Aside from your above average multitasking ability, I was curious about this. Does XB1 have some kind of overlay to make use of its apps and cool stuff while watching CableDish? Or does this mean people will need to standardize two TV's in their living rooms to make use of this? This is actually not true. There is a growing trend across the US called cord cutting. Their are many articles about it. The last few years cable companies dismissed it but lately they have started working on ways to recapture this market because it is causing a noticeable decrease in profits. Netflix, Hulu, etc. are all playing a part in this. As mentioned, I am talking about non-gamers and their added expense. What does XBL offer for people to sign up for it if they are not gamers? As you said, Netflix works on many devices and TV's themselves. $8 is a great price point for it. The point I was making is if they have a XB1 and want to watch netflix, its not $8, its $8+XBL. This is true for any 3rd party service as well, Its not included with XBL, but XBL is required to use the service through an Xbox. Exactly, we are both speculating on what mainstream people will want and use. MS tried this before with MCE and it bombed. Maybe XB1 will succeed here, but I do not see an appeal to non-gamers currently. What does it offer that isn't already provided through set-top boxes, TV's or what is currently on the market? It will have an expensive market entry for anyone that isn't a gamer.

I guess they could make it back on those little purchases, but I do not think that audience they are targeting for this won't be making those purchases. People do on their phones to pass time when out. Generally if your sitting down to watch TV, your doing that, or if its to play a game, you do that. Maybe this will work out, maybe it wont. If they change or revamp it in the first year, its a good indication its not working how they thought, time will have to tell. Netflix collects the Netflix subscription. If they keep it they way it is currently, you can only user your Netflix subscription if you are a XBL gold user (aka paying the monthly live $$), normal users can't do Netflix. So you are double paying, once for Netflix and once for Live. If they use other live features, I guess its not a big deal. The other problem that comes with it though is that nearly anyone that watches TV has Cable or a Dish. Why pay for XBL video content when your paying CableTV? I only own a 360 currently. I aquired a broken PS3 for free, fixed it and sold it, but I never played it. I do not see myself buying either of the new consoles as I haven't touched the 360 in over a year with the exception of a few group rockband moments. I do use the 360 controller on my PC though, one of the best controllers I have ever used. I also agree with you, once MS release the listvideos of exclusive games, the whiners will mostly shut up. I think this generation of xbox will be similar to the last generation with the exception of the used game thing and letting friends borrow games thing being downers in general. Console gamers will still buy it though and just it all the same.

isn't most of their profit from the games though? Systems are sold at a loss (Wii excepted) with the anticipation they will more then make up the sales in licensing from game sales. Like you said, people played Wii Sports a lot and it got a lot of Wii's to a lot of places, but what other games did they buy? Even enough to make up the hit XB1 would take in the console sale? Yes this move may get a lot more systems out there, but how many more games will it sell? Gamers are where the main profit comes from buying consistently. I have to also think, they are segregating a chunk of the gamer population as well. Enough people buy used games that stores entire business model is based around it (Gamestop for example). XB1 basically gives that business model a giant middle finger. Aside from that, you can no longer loan your games to friends unless they have your Live account to sign in with, otherwise they have to pay a fee to "activate it" on their console. If this wasn't true, I would think it was a sick April fools day joke. Sony is very smart to stick to the current sales methodology (assuming they do), they should get a good boast this generation unless MS drops all their crap. Throw in the potential of a SteamBox for this new generation things will be sure to get interesting. Steambox has the downside of being more restricted then the XB1, but it does not have a previous generation system people will compare it to directly for the things they can no longer do. This is more so the truth since steam hasn't drastically changed anything yet. I'll also add since it is relevant to xb1 being an entertainment box, that I bought an Ouya for the sole purpose of using it as a media device. For this purpose, it has greatly exceeded my expectations so far and this is stock. Once some good ROMs start getting released and I get Netflix going, it will be amazing! Watch TV (HDHomerun needed) with full DVR functionality (MythTV backend needed), watch any of my movies I have ripped as well as play music (android apps or mp3's). Throw in that it can also run emulators for NES, SNES, Genesis, PSX, N64, etc. and that it is small and extremely portable, I do not need anything else for entertainment. If I didn't also have a gamestick on the way (should provide similar functionality, but is more portable), I would already be planning te buy a second Ouya.

If you upgrade a pledge, you do retain teh original pledge date. Once the new site goes live, this is no longer true as you can no longer upgrade but instead have to convert a pledge to credit and then use the credit on another, seperate purchase.

Oh believe me, I know they will be late on some things. Aurora brochure was said to be "Soon" on the March 1st Wingmans Hangar. That took until April 26th, so soon relatively means 2 months. I am sure some stuff will be late, but I want to think (hope) that they are really pulling out the stops for this new website launch since they will essentially be reborn with it.

They probably asked and scheduled a visit. One of the perks of subscriber (Imperator only?) is that you can visit CIG once per year.

I am still debating if they will make the limited ships available again. The original announcement letting people buy them, they said that day and that day only, but then extended it through the grace period, so I guess its possible. They want to hold back info for the 24hr party which is ~2-4 weeks out, that leaves ~9 weeks to finish the 12 Ships that are not done (brochure out) and put focus on the Hangar launch itself, so ship pics, etc. should be dropping like hotcakes soon.
